Review of About Time (2013) by Nathan E — 26 Apr 2014
About Time elevates above the typical rom com because of the time travel element. However, the source of its cleverness is also its greatest flaw.
The movie never explains how or why the men in Tim's family can travel through time. While this may give the movie a magical quality, it comes in conflict with the film's tone, which is grounded in reality, save for the time travel. Even something as simple as saying that the family are descendants of Merlin or something would ease my query.
Despite that one plot hole, About Time is delightful. It is clever, well written, well shot and well acted. I enjoyed its sincerity most of all. The film's themes of family and love are played out to great effect. It's about cherishing all the moments in life, no matter how small they seem.
"Today is the day The Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24.
