Review of About Time (2013) by Tyler R — 16 Jul 2014
About Time written and directed by Richard Curtis is undeniably sweet and is sometimes predictable but it's so sweet I really got into this. About Time stars Domhnall Gleeson as Tim a man who when he turns 21 learns the big family secret from his father played hilariously by Bill Nighy that all the men in the family can travel in time but only specific moments in their lives so Tim begins to use his newfound abilities t try to get a girlfriend and when he makes the big step to move out to London on his own one night he's eating dinner in a dark restaurant which provides a really funny comedic set piece he meets Mary played by Rachel Mcadams and she becomes the girl of his dreams and he starts getting to know about her and then begins a wonderful movie about love, family and time travel which is integrated pretty well in the story I do believe they break the rules they set in place at various moments but I really didn't get too annoyed by it.
I really like this movie I think it's a very sweet and life affirming movie even if it is a little too long and it does start trying to manipulate emotions by the end but there's no denying that this is a movie that has heart and I felt good after watching it.
