Review of About Time (2013) by Kristi M — 05 Apr 2015
If I could time travel I'd go back a few hours and pick a different movie to watch. As a "time travel" type movie About Time fails by not committing to being a movie about time travel and instead treats it like a weird solution to fix life's trivial errors.
It's only at the end where it's actually used for something that makes sense by using time travel to spend time with a loved one before they passed away. The big picture it tries to convey is sweet but overall the story is messy and made up of small plot points that are meant to be important but aren't developed enough to move past so they don't quite fit together.
There is absolutely nothing that surprised me or was profound enough to be memorable and I wish I followed through with my urge to turn it off when it got to the hour and a half mark. It's good for some sweet warm and fuzzies and it did move me by making me think of my own family members but otherwise it's probably the worst time traveling movie I've ever seen.
It needed to just stick with being a romantic comedy and leave the science fiction element out of it.
