Review of About Time (2013) by Meredith W — 30 Dec 2015
This is a lovely movie that has all the hallmarks of a Richard Curtis movie; it's funny and touching and ultimately quite joyous in its observations of life. It's a strange mix of fantasy, sci-fi and romance, yet it works.
The story follows Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) who finds out from his father (Bill Nighy) on his 21st birthday that he can travel in time, something all men in his family are able to do. As he learns how to use his power he accidentally erase his chance meeting with love Mary (Rachel McAdams) so has to set about altering tis course, with some humourous results.
Indeed, it is amusing to watch Tim move through events in his life with the realisation that he could go back and fix them if he said or did something wrong. But it is also quite heartbreaking as he uses it to further his relationship with his father.
