Nicholson was great in About Schmidt, one of those post-American Beauty slice-of-life films which arguably surpasses Sam Mendes' film. Director Alexander Payne would then proceed to outdo himself with Sideways but About Schmidt remains one of Nicholson's finest latter day roles.
