Review of About Schmidt (2002) by Stephen C — 28 Feb 2008
If you thought Jack was all showing off acting and Bluster then you need to see this little gem from the director of the equally great Sideways.
Jack is on fine form here a sa man who once his wife dies finds his life at a crossroads.
So he hires a motorhome and sets off to stop his daughters wedding.
The comedy here is subtle and sublime Kathy Bates in the hot tub will have you in fits and Dermot Mulroney as Jacks Potential son in law gets loads of belly laughs too .
Ther are also some wonderfully observed moments that are full of emotion.
Alexander Payne has become adept at these gentle comedies and like Sideways after it this one is slow but a winner all the way.
