Review of About Schmidt (2002) by Greg L — 20 Nov 2008
Look, the fact that it's slow, should have no effect on the movie's quality. Was it slow? Yes, but that has nothing to do with the overall movie. The humor in it, to start off, was great. It's darker at times, and more subtle than the mainstream comedy movies have to offer.
Jack Nicholson's performance undisputably was spot on. Not to mention Kathy Bates was hilarious as the transcendental in-law. It is more thought provoking than most comedies you see nowadays. It had a specific, and deep point to it that a lot of comedies cannot pull off.
Great film.
