Review of About Schmidt (2002) by Tighe G — 15 Jan 2009
A great film, Alexander Payne is my favorite when it comes to dark comedys. Jack Nicholson is brilliant, threw out his career this is my favorite of his films. (Besides Five Easy Pieces and Cuckoo's Nest) Why I love this film so much is because of how hard you just want the other characters to listen to what Jack is saying, there is no bad performance in this film, Dermot Mulroney is great, as is Kathy Bates, and one of my favorite actresses Hope Davis. The end of this film is one of my all time favorites, its like when he says.
" But what kinda difference have I made, what in the world is better because of me" or "Once I am dead, and everyone who new me dies to. It would be as though I never even existed... What difference has my life made to anyone, none that I can think of... None at all".
And when he reads Ndugu's letter and sees the picture he painted, he realizes that he has made a difference in someones life. and thats why I love this film so much.
