Review of About Schmidt (2002) by Darren R — 04 Sep 2010
The film feels much like Schmidt's character--lost. I'm not really a big fan of these light Nicholson performances (Terms of Endearment, As Good As It Gets, About Schmidt), but I won't say he's bad in anyway.
Certainly casting the incredibly accomplished Nicholson as the incredibly bland Schmidt was clever, but nothing else about the film really engages me. All the other characters bicker (except Mulroney's, who despite actually being likable, isn't liked by Schmidt) and the comedic elements are a bit distracting.
Still, it's Jack, so it's a must see.
