Review of About Schmidt (2002) by Stacy M — 28 Apr 2009
Jack Nicholson is truly impressive in this unflattering role. He's actually playing someone his own age. Not to mention, his character is nothing particularly special. Bravo to both him and Payne for coming up with such a wonderful road movie.
Some say it's depressing. I say it's enlightening and transcendent on a minuscule level. It may be subtle but it sure is honest. Bates also proves that she's without fear. I love the tender and truthful ending.
Hollywood take note: no sentimentality!
