Hard to believe this film is 10 years old. The film is about a retired insurance salesman who is not altogether.

Happy with his lot. He has lots of anger bubbling below the surface, spouts of which are let out in his letters to his sponsored child Nbugu in Africa. He vents about his wife, his daughter's fiance and his replacement at the Woodmen insurance company. None of them are up to scratch in his opinion.

There are some genuinely touching scenes in this film as well as some drop dead hilarious ones. Jack Nicholson is good, but Kathy Bates is marvellous as Roberta Hertzel, and I see she was nominated for best supporting actress at the Oscars for this. Rightly so.

About Schmidt is a film that makes a nice statement about growing old and the compromises we have to make to each other to avoid confrontation. At least I think so anyway.

Although I give it 5 stars it wasnt as good as first time I watched it.

Maybe because as usual I've realised this film is too long. 2 hours is too much people!
