Review of About Schmidt (2002) by David M — 09 Nov 2013
An incredibly real and touching movie. Jack Nicholson has become so known for his over-the-top roles, that you forget just how talented he is, its quite a career capping performance. Nicholson is so good you almost forget he is acting at times.
The movie serves as social commentary on how we as Americans live, and waster, our lives. Yes its slow, meandering, and thats the point. The movie is a reflection of this mans life. The final monologue and scene are so touching, if it doesn't hit you, it went over your head.
The script is great, true to life dialogue. Again I come back to Nicholson, who acts his ass off just through his facial expressions, as he painfully takes in the world around him. If you're watching for the hot tub scene, you've been brought in under false pretenses.
