Review of About Schmidt (2002) by Amy S — 28 Jan 2012
I loved this movie. Schmidt's character reminds me of my dad. Especially the expression on his face when he's sitting in his den working and his daughter's finacà (C) comes in to tell him about a deal he's working on, that's "for sure not a pyramid scheme" lol.
Interestingly, the description for this film says that Schmidt is a retired insurance salesman, when in fact his is a retired Actuary. He calculates with accuracy how long people will live based on their situations. That's the crux of the movie so it's a bit odd that they would say he was a salesman.
I like that Schmidt refers to things as "quite an item". He's a likable character. You feel sorry for him, but also see his shortfalls.
Kathy Bates is positively awesome in this movie. Love the hot tub scene. She is soooo good.
Just watch it. it's a good flick.
