Review of About Last Night (2014) by Mark B — 30 Jan 2014
While I'm not even sure that the basic framework of the original film is kept intact here, the film is VERY funny!
The story is pretty "formula", but I can appreciate the delivery being given from a VERY realistic level of economics, social character & commentary.
The characters (via the actors) genuinely captured the dichotomy of romance without going "to the hood", but didn't patronize the Black community by making the players high-power earners a-la The Huxtables. Everything's about the couples & their particular way of finding out how express their love for one another in THEIR particular way.
Kevin Hart is outstandingly funny, and Regina Hall hangs with him without missing a beat.
Ealy & Bryant effectively offer the audience just enough "What the HELL are you doing, dude/girl?!" ambiguity to their romance to keep us interested through the pretty obvious outcome of the pedestrian plot; and that's OK because it's done so well.
A really REALLY fun time, People! Go enjoy it!
