Review of About Last Night (2014) by Al S — 19 Feb 2014
This was one huge cornfest from beginning to end. While I love Kevin Hart and loved Ride Along, this movie was a flop. I fault the director and to a lesser extent the scriptwriter. Art and even entertainment are supposed to provide you with another person's vision or insight.
This is a textbook example of "I have nothing to say but I'll give them what they will like." Zero originality, zero vision, zero spirit. Ealy, otherwise a good even great actor, is sadly squeezed into a sadly totally unfunny role.
His paramour is a nonstop display of cutsy vapid lifetime movie expressions, devoid of any real character. Hart and his girl try and about 3 times do rise above the leaden script but three minutes where you actually perk up out of 90 minutes just doesn't cut it.
This movie ends up not being about anything, even though I know it's trying to make some point. So if you are a guy, beware. This ain't no ordinary Kevin Hart movie. Find a secluded seat in the movie where you can go on your phone and have a more interesting time.
Since she was sitting next to me, I couldn't. I just had to grin and bear it.
