"About Last Night" is a sexy and funny romantic comedy featuring great comedic work from Kevin Hart and Regina Hall. It is a remake of the classic 1986 romantic comedy starring Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Jim Belushi and Elizabeth Perkins. Directed By Edward Zwick, the original "About Last Night" was inspired by the David Mamet play "Sexual Perversity in Chicago". The new "About Last Night" features mostly an African-American cast and it has more comedy than the 1986 version.
The new version is not set in Chicago, this time it is set in Los Angeles where Bernie (Kevin Hart) always parties hard and he doesn't care about commitment. All of that changes when he meets Joan (Regina Hall). They fight over who should be on top of the bed and commitment to each other. Bernie's best pal Danny (Michael Ealy) has already found the love of his life, Joan's room buddy Debbie (Joy Bryant). Hart and Hall are great together but Ealy and Bryant are not so great.
They're attractive performers but their storyline is so convoluted and predictable. After Ealy and Bryant move in to an apartment, we get loads of arguments and moping.
Kevin Hart and Regina Hall are the best parts of "About Last Night" and the new version is way better than the 86' version. It is a well-made romantic comedy directed by Steve Pink who made the very funny "Hot Tub Time Machine" four years ago and the screenplay by Leslye Headland is witty and smart.
After appearing in movies that don't deserve him (Ride Along, Superhero Movie, Soul Plane and Grudge Match), Kevin Hart has finally made a funny movie. He maybe the next Eddie Murphy because he's really hilarious in this movie. It maybe uneven but "About Last Night" is a fresh update on an old David Mamet play and Kevin Hart has really proven to be a talented comedian.
