Review of About Last Night... (1986) by Steve — 22 Dec 2015
People who have the view that the 80's are better time to be alive are well and truly living in rose-tinted glasses. The 1980's were not better than the 2000's-2010's, and this film gives evidence to that point of view.
The smoking in the bars and offices, the sexist jokes and style, no smartphones or internet. The technology was lacking, as was what I'd say the multicultural elements to our modern society. I saw hamburgers in this film and hot dogs, but didn't see any suchi or burritos.
I also saw no soccer either. It's really lacking in political correctness this 80's movie, and technology as well. It would be embarrassing if we had to go back to living in the 80's and this movie is proof of that.
The immaturity of the characters is for all too see. About the only one half switched on is Demi Moore's best friend. She sees Danny(Rob Lowe) for what he is, a womaniser and a time waster, but Demi Moore's character it takes her to long into the movie to realise Danny is a player and a time waster.
Bernie (James Belushi) is a sexist pig in this film, once again I don't see men behave like him towards women in the 2010's. It's a really smolchy movie, that is filled with stereotypes, and characters who don't evolve or go anywhere.
Really lame movie based on today's standards.
