Review of About Adam (2001) by John D — 03 Jul 2008
This was an interesting film without being a great film. But it left me feeling like either a lot had been left in the cutting room or that the director had tried to grace the film with an enigmatic air and had not really succeeded.
The film is set in Ireland and based around the 'Owens' family and their interactions with the 'Adam' of the title. Kate Hudson plays the lead daughter Lucy (along with a terrible Irish accent) who is a bit of flighty character who seems to hop from one boyfriend to another until she meets Adam (played well by Stuart Townsend), Adam is different for Lucy and so the rest of the family meet him and in-turn become enthralled with him (in the case of most of the females carnally).
This I thought is not particularly well directed and left me wanting to know more about Adam's motivations (there was a hint of darkness behind the tales he tells and his need to please which needed exploring), and all results in a pretty unsatisfactory ending.
This would only be viewed again in cases of extreme boredom.
