Review of About a Boy (2002) by Justin F — 22 Jan 2012
Having just finished the book I was looking forward to seeing this. My advice is to just read the book, its much funnier and has more warmth than the film. I was not impressed by the actor who played Marcus.
I somehow imagined someone more like the bloke who plays Ron Weasly in Harry Potter. In my opinion there was no onscreen chemisty between Marcus & Will. Ellies character is seriously neglected in the film whereas she plays a fundemental role in the book.
Also the final scene from the book is cut and replaced with Will and Marcus singing on the school stage in a painfull, fistbiting finale. On the plus side Toni Collette is as good as always and Hugh Grant plays Will competently.
