Review of A Wrinkle in Time (2018) by Joel Z — 29 Mar 2018
This movie reminds me of boxcar kids in a fantasy world, which is not complimentary.
Pros: Good messages. Power of love is pretty cliche, but liking yourself is important. The visuals are stunning. The actors are quite good, especially for child actors. Actually, all the acting is pretty good.
Cons: So if this were a movie for adults, the plot holes would be unforgivable. Nothing that happens makes sense and the made up rules don't stick around long enough to be kept track of. Every character trudges along as though the plot fairy has a string tied to them, with no sense of motivation. Again, I get that it's a kids movie but could you at least try to build something resembling a story and not just a bunch of excuses to show off special effects?
Overall: Not terrible, but definitely not good.
