Review of A Wrinkle in Time (2018) by Jamesirish68 — 14 Mar 2018
The primary criticism of A Wrinkle in Time seems to be that it is so unfaithful to the book. Neither I or my lot have read it so I can only judge based what we saw on the screen. Technically good. Visually very colourful and warm if bland. The lead Meg Murry was very competent especially at the beginning when interacting with the weirdly unpleasant adults at her school. Charles Wallace( Two names?) did his very best but the director asked too much of him. The adult actors (more than a few big stars) were OK though Oprah's enormous (literally) presence detracted from even kid's suspension of disbelief.
The narrative was a little confused to put it kindly. The director Ava DuVernay is a political animal not apparently suited to fantasy.
