Review of A Woman Under the Influence (1974) by Freddie F — 31 Jul 2011
A film of stunning emotional depth. I love the way it presents the breakdown of this character and her attempt towards recovery; those around her are concerned with her not as a person but as what she represents.
The children need a perfect mother, Nick needs a perfect wife, Nick's mother needs a perfect daughter-in-law -- all requiring Mable to fit into a role society has already established that she just does not fit into.
A film too brave, bold and brilliant to be summarized in a single paragraph. See it!
