Review of A Woman Under the Influence (1974) by Jonathon N — 22 Dec 2013
A magical film that manages to be both heart-breaking and oddly heart-warming. This is John Cassavetes at his best. Gena Rowlands gives one of the best and most memorable screen performances I've ever seen.
Additionally, Peter Falk bravely plays his role with such conviction and brutal love that you can go from hating him to loving him in a matter of a few seconds screen time. This is not so much a study of mental illness as it is a study of love and how two limited people can be unlimited in their capacity to love one another.
Not to be missed and never to be forgotten. This is a cinematic gem.
