Review of A Walk to Remember (2002) by Olivia A — 28 Sep 2015
We as human beings age. During this process we become more wise and far more intelligent than those younger than us. Some people gain their knowledge by reading educational books or journals, while others may learn from their own experiences in life. I on the other hand, tend to learn while watching heartfelt movies. A Walk to Remember is one movie in particular that has touched my life and changed the way I view this world. This movie captivates my attention and never ceases to make me cry, even though I have watched it far too many times. All audiences should watch A Walk to Remember, because it models endless innocent love, teaches you to have compassion for those who surround you, and stresses the importance of how short life really is. You only get one chance to live this life you are given. A Walk to Remember is the epitome of living, loving, and sharing this life with those who you love.
Love is a delicate, precious thing. In the movie, the two main characters, Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter, started off in two completely separate worlds. Jamie was the preacher's daughter and Landon was the town's bad boy. Yet through a school play, he began to fall in love with her. As Landon realized his affection, he began to slowly change the way he presented himself as well as the people with whom he associated. He realized that Jamie was not the same as most girls and did things by the Holy Bible. Jamie wanted to take it slow and Landon respected and cared for her through everything she was enduring. They grew in love and life together in the most precious, innocent way. With this world teaching that sex equals love, it is a refreshing thing to see that you do not need to have sex to be in love. It shows that abstinence is a key thing in relationships. Although they were ridiculed for that decision, they stuck to their beliefs and prospered in their love.
Along with the portrayal of innocent love, the movie also exemplifies the importance of having compassion for the people around you. Throughout the movie, the teenagers at school were ruthless and persistent in making Jamie feel unwanted. When they found out that her life was not as easy as they thought, they were filled with regret and compassion. In life people ridicule, tease, and judge other people who they barely know or do not know at all. In those times, the bullies have no idea what is going on behind the scenes in that person's life. This movie teaches you to be cautious in the way you treat people, and to encourage those around you instead of tearing them down. Through kindness and compassion you can truly change lives, just as Jamie does all throughout the movie.
All in all, you have to live life to the fullest. In this movie Landon and Jamie realize that their time together could be short-lived. At every opportunity they spent their time going through a number of things on Jamie's "bucket list." From getting a tattoo to "being in two places at once", Landon helped Jamie fulfill her wishes. Sometimes people do not understand just how short life can be. Watching this movie will leave a lasting impression that pushes you to not be satisfied with an ordinary life, but strive for an extraordinary one. Strive for a life that is filled with joy each day.
In conclusion, this movie is exceptional to say the least. It's ability to bring people to tears of joy and tears of sorrow is truly amazing. The way it shows the importance of innocent love, caring for those around you, and living life to the fullest is heartwarming. A Walk to Remember is the perfect title for this movie because it shows a challenging journey of a young girl's life that you will never forget. Without a doubt, this is a movie you want to see!
