Review of A Walk in the Woods (2015) by Dave R — 20 Sep 2015
So hiking the Appalachian Trail is not easy and the thought of two guys in their 60's or 70's doing it is pretty unrealistic, but A Walk in the Woods is based on a true story and I guess these guys did just that.
Now whether they were as funny on the trail as they are in this movie, I have no idea and don't really care. Robert Redford (who hasn't aged well) provides plenty of quickly timed one liners that most of the time are hits, and Nick Nolte (who has aged poorly to say the least) provides the slapstick out of shape dude who has no business being on this hike.
They make a good team and for the first 3/4 of this movie it all makes sense. Toward the end you get about as tired of the story about as much as they are tired of hiking, and are thinking, okay how does this thing end already? Maybe I enjoyed the movie a little more due to the fact my son did a section of the trail this summer and took a picture with his cousins at a spot that was in the movie so that was kind of cool.
I had a fun time with this one, even though there are plenty that doesn't fit, but it's a good time nonetheless.
