Review of A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014) by Christian M — 09 Oct 2014
Neeson plays the usual gruff good guy, tough and flawed. This time he is Matt Scudder, an ex NYPD detective but due to his alacoholic and haunted past he is now a private eye, unlicensed, he does jobs on the downlow for a fee or "gift" so the people he works for are mainly people that come from the shadows. He comes across a case from a local drug trafficker whose wife was kidnapped and then chopped up into nice little packages. As Scudder investigates he finds this wasn't a one off and that there are a few sick bastards going around kidnapping females involved with drug dealing, knowing that no one will come looking for them.
This is your typical Neeson role but a bit darker than his usual action films. It is well crafted, bit of a slow burn, takes its time getting to where it wants to go but it is rewarding once it is over, very dramatic, very grim, a great detective thriller. It delves into a pretty disturbing side of life, the evil bastards are cut from a real life type of evil, these two are predators that can easily be driving around your streets, waiting. Great film.
