Review of A View to a Kill (1985) by Nick E — 16 Jul 2008
"What happened?", is what the majority of Bond film fans ask when viewing Moore's 7th and final outing as British secret agent 007 in "A View To a Kill." Well...these are a few answers for you. By now Moore was 57, making him the oldest actor to play Bond (keep in mind that Sean Connery was 52 when he did the unofficial Bond film yet playing the same character in "Never Say Never Again"). Also Moore realised he was getting on in age and was shocked to hear that actress Tanya Roberts' mother was younger than he was. And Walken's villain Zoren seemed just that bit too over the top when we saw him mercilessly open fire upon many of his workers with a malicious smile and laugh.
That said, these are some of the reasons why this film is cosidered a weak installment (Moore even commented that it's his least favourite film of the Bond movies he performed in), but there are a few highlights (hence why I gave it 3 stars, instead of 2.5). Whether that be the opening snow sequence, the awesome pop song by Duran Duran, the pursuit of Mayday through Paris, escaping the building on firein San Francisco followed by a pursuit on a Fire Brigade vehicle, a horse race gone haywire, and the closing fight scene on the Golden Gate bridge. If you do tend to watch this before seeing "Quantum of Solace" at the end of the year, don't expect too much it, but rather use your dvd remote to skip to some of the better scenes in it instead.
