Review of A View to a Kill (1985) by Jordan S — 10 Jan 2013
I am a huge Bond fan, and I truly love each movie for what each one is. That said when I rate Bond movies, I rate them against themselves and not the entire Hollywood movie population.
A View To A Kill is Roger Moore's last go around as 007, and unfortunately his worst. For me, this could have been a great Bond flick. The story is original enough and kept my interest throughout, although there were several factors that took me out of the film. Roger Moore seemed to have aged considerably since Octopussy and is looking too old for the role. His acting is fine and he delivers his lines well and with great comedic timing but he is no longer believable as Bond. Whether it's the action sequences (all which leave something to be desired) or the romance scenes Moore just looks out of place. Sir Roger himself said this was his least favorite Bond film and was horrified to find out he was older than his female co-star's mother. That said I did not enjoy Tanya Roberts' performance in this film, as she came off shrieky and helpless. The good points in this movie are most definitely the villains. Christopher Walken is an awesome Bond baddie and one that has always stuck out for me. Grace Jones is absolutely stunning in this film and delivers a wonderful performance as May Day. It may sound like I am being very critical but this Bond adventure is fun and worth watching for the story and villains. I do wish Roger Moore went out on a high note, but in my opinion he should have stopped after For Your Eyes Only.
