Review of A Very Sordid Wedding (2017) by Bj K — 23 Jun 2017
Just when I thought there was no way Del Shores can improve on the lives of the poor folks in Winters, Texas. I was so inaccurate with that thought. How do you improve on an outlandishly funny franchise as Sordid Lives? You serve it with wedding cake and more zany, memorable characters.
The true SL fans will be so entertained to find out what has been happening in the lives of their favorite characters since we last saw them 17 years ago. When you serve wedding cake there must always be ice cream. Ice cream that comes in the introduction of one of several new flavorful rolls. One of the outstanding of new character performances was given by Emerson Collins as Billy Joe Dobson, run-a-way, outlaw serial killer. The scene he and Brother Boy, (Leslie Jordan) transports you from the outrageous happenings of this Texas berg to an interesting, deep heartfelt thoughts and mind of a love long assassin. Collins portrial of the dark BJ Dobson keeps the movie grounded and reminds us to not judge a book by its cover.
Del Shores and the complete cast have given me and a full house crowd one wild laugh after another. There was even a moment when the entire madcap theater was brought to profound whimpers and tears as the story evolved. I have not experienced such emotional whiplash since Sally Field and Steel Magnolias.
