Review of A Very Murray Christmas (2015) by Kristen P — 08 Dec 2015
Many moons ago, a regular fixture on TV during the holiday season was Holiday themed variety specials. Those pretty much died out with the Variety show itself, but Bill Murray, Sofia Coppola and Netflix have teamed up to bring you a modernized version of these classic specials.
The plot is essentially that Murray is supposed to do one of these live specials, but a blizzard keeps all his guests and audience from showing up, and a power outage ends the special entirely. It then goes int othe bar where Murray, Paul Schaffer, and other bar patrons sing and celebrate the holiday together.
It is a mildly entertaining Christmas diversion, elevated by Murray's always entertaining presence. A few good songs in there, though I did skip through Miley Cyrus singing "Silent Night" because I'm not really a fan of hers or the song itself.
Maybe a little more modern and irreverent than the specials it is paying a homage to, but still not anything that will revive the genre.
