Review of A Very Long Engagement (2004) by Trev B — 07 Oct 2009
The awful title made me think this was a chick flick (reminded me of "The Momentum of Things" in The Simpsons) but it's way too brutal to be considered that - it's a love story for sure but set against the backdrop of World War 1.
The recreation of the trenches and battle fields are excellent and the whole film is really well shot by Jeunet. I wish a bit more had been made of Marion Cotillard's character - a beautiful vengeful hooker - but otherwise this was surprisingly excellent.
