Review of A Very Long Engagement (2004) by Steve S — 16 Mar 2010
***1/2 (out of four).
From the director of "Amelia" comes another film withthe delightful Audrey Tautou. The tone of the fuilm is completely different, however. This beautifully filmed historic drama is very well shot and features a script that is tight and moving.
Set during World War I, Tautou plays a young woman who lives by the sea with her aunt and uncle. She impatiently awaits the return of her fiancee from battle. She finally receives word that he is dead. Refusing to accept the story behind his death, she launches an investigation to find out what really happened.
