Review of A Very Brady Sequel (1996) by Jon C — 25 Jun 2014
The follow-up to the original is a hit-and-miss opportunity.
On the one end the Bradys face a new sitcom situation in which someone who claims to be Mrs. Brady's first husband certainly raises a few eyebrows.
No one seems to suspect a thing but the kids soon catch on to his scheme.
On the other hand the writers came up with a funny but unreasonably and uncomfortable attraction between Marcia and Greg.
They start to wonder if they are not really brother and sister and are met with an awkward dilemma.
And Jan decides to get noticed for once by coming up with an imaginary romance of her own.
It really looks as if the creators abandoned the original principles of the TV show that inspired them.
Heck they even throw so many out-of-nowhere jokes that it becomes a cartoon.
There's even a dozen references to the TV series.
Some of the jokes are ok, others they needed some more punch to make them truly effective.
It's not as good as the 1st movie but watchable.
If you can get past the awkward scenarios then the movie should still deliver ample fun.
