Review of A Time to Kill (1996) by Ryan K — 21 May 2010
A time to kill is a very powerful film about vigilante justice and race relations. I can see one not liking this film because it is pretty manipulative emotionally and at times can be pretty over the top.
While those very critiques have turned me off to other films it just worked for me this time. I was on the edge of my seat and watching like I was there and knew the people. Both Joel Schumacher and Matthew McConaughey surprised me.
I did not know the one could direct and the other act like that. I think Matt needs a better publicist, its not all about money its about street cred too! It also had some pretty accurate legal principles and ethical dilemmas.
