Review of A Thousand Words (2012) by Todd D — 19 Aug 2012
It is often difficult to accept the transition of actors we watched as kids. We want them to forever be that image. In the case of Eddie Murphy, we forever want to see him as Axel Foley or Reggie Hammond. He has stumbled through family movie after family movie as it seems he is likely trying to distance himself from the Eddie we grew up with. And you know what? I don't blame him!! It's cool to be the smartass at 20, it is lame to be that way at 50.
I agree with most every living, breathing person that Eddie should be more selective about the roles he accepts; however, he has shown his ability to portray a broader range of character than I think people would have thought he was capable of in the 80s (with movies like this and Dreamgirls). I honestly can't wait for the day that Eddie begins to make dramatic roles his new staple and leave the cheesy family movies for Ice Cube and Vin Diesel.
