Review of A Thousand Words (2012) by John M — 07 May 2013
Eddie Murphy starts as fast-talking literary exec Jack McCall, a man who endures a curse which enables him to only have 1000 words to speak until he dies. With a job and marriage that crumbles, he needs to find out what matters the most and say it silently.
With a tomatometer at the lowest it could possibly be, I was surprised that this comedy got this low. People I will argue with you as much as you want in the comments, and give all the thumbs downs you want. It's just an opinion, and it shouldn't be taken seriously. I've already taken enough crap from my Emperor's New Groove review.
Eddie Murphy is good in this movie. True he's much better in movies where he's a real motormouth, but the truth is that people laugh more at physical humour than spoken humour. Don't believe me? Watch Kramer on Seinfeld. The other actors don't do as well as Murphy, though.
No doubt that this will be the Razzie front-runner, and it will probably have more un-fans than any movie this year, but A Thousand Words is a heartwarming comedy that the very, very rare will enjoy (namely me).
**1/2 out of ****.
FINAL VERDICT: 55%.
(Here comes the hatred...).
