Review of A Thousand Clowns (1965) by Jimmy M — 18 Jun 2008
Alternately hilarious and depressing. The always great Jason Robards and Barry Gordon (who does a great Peter Lorre impression) make such a cute couple. Also great are a young Barbara Harris (a bunch of '70s comedies) and William Daniels (Mr.
Feeny on Boy Meets World). I have no idea why Martin Balsam won the Oscar; he's barely in the movie, and his role is entirely unremarkable. The first 90 minutes or so are really nice, but the last half hour is kind of a let-down.
Also, it feels a bit too much like a stage play and not like a movie.
