Review of A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) by Renaldo P — 11 Aug 2010
Predictable. Cliche. But if dissected carefully, this South Korean supernatural/psychological thriller has much to offer. Asian horror enthusiasts may find the film-style similar to the Japanese "Ju-on" and also, Chan-wook Park's Korean masterpiece, "Thirst". Deviating from the traditional paranormal shockers that films of this genre usually are, A Tale Of Two Sisters delves more into the twisted psyche of the protagonist. Vengeance, guilt, retribution, coming to terms with ones past......form the core of the story. If you are a fan of movies (originals) such as The Ring, Shutter and Dark Water, then you shan't be disappointed.
"Do you know what's really scary? You want to forget something. Totally wipe it off your mind. But you never can. It can't go away, you see. And... and it follows you around like a ghost." - Eun-ju.
Hollywood remake - "The Uninvited".
