Review of A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) by Jeff Q — 18 Mar 2008
Keep in mind that this review and rating is after one viewing. I suspect that the rating would go up after a second viewing. This discalimer is due to a script that for the beter part of the film appears convoluted, but it seems to really come together in the end, but it's just too complex (for me) after the first watch.
Aside from all that, A Tale of Two Sister has so much to offer in tone and mood and scares and intrigue that even without a wrap up ending (that I think is there somewhere) it's a great ride. With only four main characters, the development bounces around quick, yet so smooth and eloquent that the it's a treat just trying to figure why everyone is acting so crazy.
We can tell that something is really fucked up, but the surreal nature of the film hides all the clues in a real and honest way. No doubt about it, there is more originality and freshness in ten minutes of this film that most of the crap passing for horror lately.
