Review of A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) by Brett W — 11 Oct 2009
Shares all the common characteristics of the average American horror release, but TOTS out-scares them because it removes (or at least subtly downplays) all the inevitable worn out cliches that seem to claw their way to the surface in Hollywood.
Characters are multidimensional. Plot points aren't carelessly shoved in our faces like we're attention deficient children. And director Ji-woon lets the characters themselves indicate when the tension is building instead of saturating the atmosphere with soundtrack tension or visual overkill.
