Review of A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) by Masorad ( — 28 Dec 2009
The play is done by underfunded repertory companies the world over, and one way or another you've assimilated Kowalski screaming "Stella!" But Kazan's film is chess master-grade, the quality of play and resourceful ingenuity is expert-class, and it's rightfully become iconic.
Williams wrote better, but he never juggled sex, madness & American class-consciousness this deliciously.
