Review of A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) by Richard D — 05 Feb 2018
Explosive and realistic acting anachronistically ahead and out of it's time. The gentlemens story this is not, It's themes are based on a Faulkneress southern fall from Grace These southern Belle's are no longer a financial or social Pinnacle of their closed society, and find themselves clunking along in common society where the rules are hard to define and they never quite achieve the stability and respected life they desire.
At times too literal and self aware, it's best when it plays as a raw soap opera allowing the actors to escape the formalism encumbering their contemporaries.
