Review of A Star Is Born (2018) by Abby G — 05 Jan 2019
This movie was recommended to me by my friend with warnings of a rollercoaster of emotions, and boy, was she right. The film captures the beginnings of a hopeful relationship that every little girl wishes to have-- one with a famous, rich, and handsome musician.
For Lady Gaga's character this means more than a simple fling, it means the start of her own career. Now, what I found most interesting about this movie were the characters' abilities to step outside their comfort zone and perform so well.
Lady Gaga-- a moving actress. Bradley Cooper-- a wonderful singer. Don't even get me started on the soundtrack that still just happens to play in my car everytime I'm in the mood to belt out some emotional tunes.
My only problem with the film is that I wanted more development on the changes Gaga was experiencing as her own career began to flourish. She changed her hair and sound, and while that was touched on briefly (while still emotionally) in the bathtub scene, I would've loved a more notable transition back to her roots.
Overall, the movie had me in tears, whether it be because of the (kinda spoiler alert) terribly sad ending or my own struggles with alcoholism in my life. All in all, the movie was absolutely phenomenal.
