Not up to the 1976 movie. The two leads seem to be copying the Streisand/Kristofferson characters but neither has the talent or the charisma to carry it off. I couldn't get engaged with either .
They seem to be too concerned in maintaining their real life personalities and don't in any way put across the emotion or any believable reasons for the tragic outcome. So what? Jackson has had his run at the top and Ally's ?fame will be fleeting. They sing well enough apart from Gaga's awful over-dramatic way of putting across Edith Piaf's wonderful La Vie en Rose.
