Review of A Star Is Born (2018) by Daniel B — 23 Oct 2018
I absolutely love Gaga and she is great in this but the film is really overrated. Her character is quite unlikeable - hitting fans who want a selfie and being unpleasant to her dad. I hate to say it but I dont think Bradley Coopers writing or directing was up to speed.
It looked great but there was not much cohesion between scenes. I couldn't understand what he was saying and didnt understand why he had the issues he had. Also didnt believe their relationship - it wasn't developed enough other than him unlocking her song writing.
With The BodyGuard you get a real sense of the glitz and glamour of showbusiness. The onstage stuff was great but I never got any sense of why it was exciting to become a star or the energy of the entertainment industry.
I loved watching her and think she deserves some awards recognition but the film sadly left me feeling flat. It's a shame as I went in expecting a masterpiece. The final song is great and some of her other numbers were but that was about it, sadly.
