Review of A Star Is Born (2018) by Stephanie%20 M — 11 Oct 2018
I was excited to see this film but, while it was a good movie, I don't especially agree with its hype or Oscar buzz. The first third to a half of the film was beautiful and there were glimmers of its compelling start later in the film, but it became few and far between.
The arrival of Aly's manager and her transition into pop music just felt strange and flat (and not in the film's intended way). I was truly rooting for Lady Gaga in her acting debut and Bradley Cooper for his directorial debut and there were elements that absolutely delivered, such as the festival and bar scenes.
However, the film overall became oddly incohesive or unintegrated. Still worth seeing but not worth the buzzy chatter, in my opinion.
