Review of A Star Is Born (2018) by Paloma M — 14 Oct 2018
The latest remake of the 1937 movie of the same name, it stars a gruff Bradley Cooper and a surprisingly vulnerable Lady Gaga, as a fading star and an ingenue, respectfully.
While the story and character beats have a 'been there, done that' feel to it, I still was rather impressed by the strong performances of not only the leads, but also the supporting characters by the upbeat Anthony Ramos, a surprising easy-going Dave Chapelle, a surprising funny Andrew Dice Clay, and a surprising subtle Sam Elliot.
I guess the keyword here is 'surpisingly' and I think that fits here. Countdown to Oscar noms.
I give it four cute fluffy brown dogs. (Seriously, the dog was cute).
