Review of A Star Is Born (2018) by Dj I — 05 Oct 2018
A good movie that keeps you engrossed 3/4 of the way but then limps to the finish line. The early music and rags to riches journey is an energetic and whirlwind ride that does not disappoint. There is a musical purity and innocence that really does come across on screen and, more importantly, validates their relationship as well.
Once she sells out for cookie cutter pop star fame, however, you feel the disconnect both in their relationship and the film. You want it to go back to that but it never does. Then it becomes predictable with rock star cliche behavior and tragedy.
The film just drags on too long. They also should've promoted a "hook" song earlier in order to link it with the ending so as to give it a more powerful ending. Still, the first hour plus is definitely worth going to see it.
