Review of A Star Is Born (2018) by Peter D — 04 Oct 2018
When the movie ended, the 60 year old man two seats down said audibly "wow." Most of the audience, myself included, apparently felt the same, and understandably so. The movie started on a high note.
Gaga's performance on several of the songs was nothing short of magnificent -- I'm thinking most of "La Vie En Rose" and the climax of the final number "I'll Never Love Again".
Were there some cliche plot points? Yes. Was the acting 100% perfect at every moment? No. But the movie established once and for all that Gaga can write music and sing live and act all at a consistently high degree of proficiency (and Bradley Cooper certainly didn't shirk).
The chemistry between the stars was palpable. Their love story was believable. And Gaga's singing was incredible.
