Review of A Star Is Born (2018) by Ashleigh A — 04 Oct 2018
I was lucky enough to prescreen this movie before the actual release.
This was hands down one of the best films I've seen...ever. It was effortlessly funny, heartwarming, troublesome, and heart wrenching all in one. Bradley Cooper delivered such an exceptional performance - you would think he was a musician his entire life - and his issues with codependency and substance abuse were shown in such an honest and harrowing way. Lady Gaga was simply breathtaking. From every note she spoke to every note she sang. She lit up the screen and you truly felt that it was almost scriptless; everything was so absolutely natural and effortless. Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga, and Sam Elliott all deserve every award and accolade imaginable. This was worth the wait, worth the countless tears and sobs from the theater driving all the way to my house.
I bought a physical copy of the soundtrack today and cried through the whole thing...there are little dialogue snippets (like at the end when Sam Elliott tell Gaga there are 12 notes and it's up to you what you do with them). It's a performance of a lifetime for both Gaga and Cooper and I will remember this as a favorite film forever (and the originals were hard to tap, but this was topped it in my book).
***Bring tissues.
***If you wear contacts, wear glasses to the movie so you don't ruin your contacts (learned the hard way).
